Mesothelioma & asbestos lawyers of Chicago

Malignant Mesothelioma occurs in the lining of the lung, known as the pleura (Pleural Mesothelioma) and sometimes in other areas of the body as well (typically, Peritoneal Mesothelioma). Mesothelioma is an asbestos related cancer that is unresponsive to many therapies and often difficult to accurately diagnose. Although the incidence of mesothelioma has risen dramatically since the early 1970’s, it is still a relatively rare cancer caused by exposure to asbestos fibers including amosite, chrysotile, or crocidolite. As a result, cells of the mesothelium become abnormal and divide without control.
Such asbestos products were used primarily in the construction industry for heat retardation and insulation and have been banned for decades. But asbestos still poses a danger to anyone doing repair, demolition work, or maintenance in any building containing asbestos, as well as many in other employments including the refinery, textile, military, automotive, railroad, and shipbuilding industries. Treatment options may include chemotherapy, surgery and radiation therapy.
Some of the symptoms of Mesothelioma may include:
- Weight loss
- Swelling in face or arms
- Lethargy or tiredness
- Muscle weakness
- Sweating
- Throat hoarseness
- Pain in side of chest or lower back
- Shortness of breath
- Fever
- Cough/ coughing up blood
